What is the Bowen Technique?
Bowen Technique is an holistic therapy which affects the body in different ways which is believed to promote healing, pain relief and recovery of energy. To experience the Bowen Technique you will be surprised how gentle, subtle and relaxing it is. Osteopaths, chiropractors, sports therapists and physiotherapists are among the many qualified practitioners who use the Bowen Technique and are amazed at the effectiveness of this simple and gentle form of `hands on` therapy. It is advisable to have at least three to four Bowen sessions with appointments spaced out between seven to 10 days (seven days being the optimum time) after which, the client will be assessed by the practioner to determine if the client would benefit from more Bowen sessions.
Bowen Technique is not a form of massage, it treats the whole person. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers making rolling type movements which activate specific muscles, soft tissue and energy within the body. During treatment there are periods when the client is left resting for a few moments allowing the body to rebalance itself and commence the healing process.
There is a view that the Bowen Technique has helped with the following conditions.
Headache, Migraine, ear disorders. Hay Fever, Jaw problems, Neck & shoulder pain, Whiplash, Frozen Shoulder, Bronchial/Respiratory problems. Tennis Elbow, Carpal Tunnel, RSI, Kidney problems, IBS, Nausea and Infant Colic, Digestive conditions, Pregnancy & Fertility issues, Menstrual problems, Pelvic pain and Groin strain, Sciatica, Knee, Ankle & foot disorders. Hamstring problems. Problems requiring lymphatic drainage have responded favourably to Bowen Technique. Other conditions; Baby colic, Joint and Muscle pain, Water retention, Depression, Chronic Fatigue, MS, ME and PMT. Some people use The Bowen Technique as a means for relaxation management and health maintenance, seeing their therapist regularly 2-4 times a year.>
Jan's clients believe that the Bowen Technique also addresses many other conditions and is generally regarded as safe and effective for people of all ages.
What does a Bowen treatment involve?
An appointment will take approximately 45 minutes and most of the work can be performed through light clothing (or directly on the skin). Three to Four treatments, at weekly intervals are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief, although further treatments may be required. To receive maximum benefit it is recommended that other physical therapies are not mixed with the Bowen Technique, for example, massage and physiotherapy.
Just a quick note to thank you so much for sorting me out yesterday - it was brilliant that you had that cancelled appointment available just when I needed it.
I am in absolute awe of what you have done. Having been in serious trouble with my back yesterday, I have not a trace of pain today and apart from a little stiffness here and there, my movements are quite unrestricted and I have no discomfort whatever.
It is quite extraordinary and simply confirms what I have read in a number of places about the effectiveness of the Bowen Technique. I wish I had taken the plunge to give it a try years ago, instead of plodding on with conventional physio.
In case you hadn't guessed by now (!) I am completely sold on it, and I look forward to the further appointment next Friday as agreed.
Many many thanks. Mr.C W - Jordans, Bucks.
